Kitty’s Review – Joyfully His: A Novella (Sterling Canyon #3.5) by Jamie Beck

Joyfully His is the perfect read for a cold winter night sitting by the fire. ~ Kitty, Guilty Pleasures

Folks in Sterling Canyon know that small towns have long memories. Two years after the DUI that injured a pedestrian, Andy Randall is still making amends. He hopes the Christmas spirit will help him get rehired as a ski instructor, but that job will come with conditions. He can’t afford another mistake, which is exactly what making a play for his former boss and friend, Nikki Steele, would be.

Nikki races down double black diamonds and hikes mountains better than most guys, unafraid of tumbling down the slopes. But trusting the guy who once shot her down could end in a fall that actually hurts, especially when she’d have to vouch for him with her boss. Still, the resort needs another instructor to handle the holiday tourists, and Andy’s sexy grin and relaxed charisma make him hard to resist.

With both of their reputations now on the line, can Andy convince Nikki that the second chance he wants isn’t only about the job?

I was really happy to back in Sterling Canyon. I was even happier that we were going to see an HEA for a man that I really felt sorry for in past books … Andy Randall.

See, I believe in second chances. I also believe that people who make mistakes, own up to their mistakes, take responsibility for the mistakes, really, truly do deserve a second chance. I am thrilled that we are seeing this with Andy because his remorse shines through, not only in Joyfully His but in Accidentally Hers (Sterling Canyon 1) when we first meet him. But, it’s hard in a small town, people remember, people judge and some just can’t let it go. He’s hoping that his past friendship with Nikki and his work ethic at the Ski Lodge is enough to get her to give him his dream job back.

Nikki feels so much guilt for what Andy is going through. If she just put her pride aside, he wouldn’t have had the accident that is causing so much grief in his life. She goes to bat for him because she knows that he deserves it. She also tries to lock down her attraction to him, to no avail.

Looking back, Andy knows that his accident was a mistake but, turning away the sultry and intriguing Nikki was an even bigger one. He knows how confident on the slopes she is but, her confidence in her personal life is at an all-time low. He also knows that starting anything up with her could also jeopardize his job and hers. He can’t help himself when the opportunity presents itself. But, one jealous woman and he knows that he could never be the person he was before the accident in the eyes of the people of Sterling Canyon and it’s killing him that Nikki falls right into that category as well.

I loved how Jamie Beck wrote Joyfully His. She showed hope, pettiness, support and love all wrapped in a beautiful package. In the end, she showed us just what forgiveness and regret means. The story was uplifting and entertaining, fun and flirty. The perfect read for a cold winter night sitting by the fire.
