DiDi’s Review – All-New Kindle Oasis E-reader (2017, 9th generation)

As an avid reader and e-reader lover,  my opinion is that the new Kindle Oasis* is the ultimate e-reader. Is it a must have? I would say yes it most certainly is, especially for voracious readers who like speedy page turns, a larger screen and more memory, not to mention the waterproof aspect. ~ DiDi, Guilty Pleasures

All-New Kindle Oasis E-reader – 7″ High-Resolution Display (300 ppi), Waterproof, Built-In Audible, 8 GB, Wi-Fi – Includes Special Offers

When Amazon announced that the all new Kindle Oasis was going to be waterproof I immediately 1-clicked, even though I love my Kindle Voyage. I did this because one of my biggest guilty pleasures is lighting candles, filling the tub with a Lush bath bomb, grabbing a wine glass with a bottle of wine and reading in the tub.  I’ve been able to do this by putting all of my previous Kindles in a gallon zipper storage bag, but it’s not the optimal solution, the bag doesn’t fit right and I really don’t trust it to 100% protect it, if I were to drop it.

I couldn’t wait to get home from work last night and check out my new precious! When I took it out of the box I was amazed at how lite it was. Getting it set up was as easy as setting up all of the other variety of Kindles, but a lot faster! Yes the new Oasis is faster than any of the the other Kindle models, and I’ve have them all (except the original Oasis). Page turns are quick, the browser is fairly quick and purchasing books via the Oasis is fast and easy.  I love the feel of the new Oasis, granted it did take me a few minutes to get used to holding it and turning the pages because of the thicker side of the device but once I got used to it I love it. The screen! The 7 inch screen is a dream to read on! The fonts are crisp and clean, I personally prefer the Amazon Ember, but there are a variety of fonts to choose from. I didn’t try the Audible function because I listen to my books via the Kindle app on my phone. I did notice there is no audio jack so if you want to use earphones you will need to utilize the blue tooth type, I purchased this earbud a few months ago for $23.99 and am very pleased with it, I only use one and the sound is good.  The only issue I have with the new Oasis is the limited availability of covers at the time of release, Amazon’s least expensive cover is $44 and only comes in a few colors, and I need cute and colorful on my covers.

As far as comparing the Oasis to the Voyage. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Voyage, I actually picked it over the original Oasis last December because there wasn’t a discernible difference to justify paying so much more money for the Oasis. I love my Voyage and actually gave it to my mom last night because her Paperwhite is starting to get dots and dark spots on the screen. She said she loves the Voyage and has no need to get the Oasis.
