This book has it all! The Medieval theme, mixed with magic, and some sexy men on a quest will have you riveted to the edge of your seat! ~ Rosalie, Guilty Pleasures

bitterwood_600x900Description:
Outrunning a winter storm in the north, Captain Faran of the King’s Guard leads his men and a young mage named Meric to shelter at Bitterwood Manor, the ancestral home of the Daenes. Faran and his troops have been searching for weeks for a mysterious, lion-like beast that reportedly haunts the uncharted northern woods. For Meric, finding that prophesied cat is a matter of life and death.

Though Faran is deeply focused on their mission, the enigmatic Joss Daene, Lord of Bitterwood, fascinates him. Strong and proud, Joss is everything Faran wants in a lover. More, if he were honest. But Joss belongs to Bitterwood, and Faran to his duty.

Together they will need to brave the oldest, darkest part of the Bitterwood in the coldest, deepest snows of winter to find the legendary cat. But time is running out—for Meric, for the kingdom, and for Faran and Joss’s fledgling love.

Rosalie-Belle-Avatar---Box I LOVE anything Medieval! And Bitterwood definitely did not fail to deliver! Something else this purestdelightawardbook had that I adore is dual POV’s. The POV’s in this read are from Meric and Farran. We get to explore both of these characters, as well as their sexy relationships, through the alternating POV’s.

Faran and Meric are on a journey to find a magical cat that has been stated to help Meric get over the illness he has. Along the way, Faran ends up, with his army and Meric, at Joss’ door, asking to seek shelter from a story. From the beginning, it was attraction to the highest power. Faran and Joss’ relationship is one that really was rocky. At times, it seemed like it was almost too much to try to work for. Joss’ son, Eissa, and Meric also end up having a relationship (but both are super young, and the read really does a good job of keeping their intimacies age appropriate).

On top of all the amazing aspects that make up this book, there is also mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved this book and it was definitely one I’m glad I received! I will be coming back to this one for rereads for sure!

About Rowan Speedwell
An unrepentant biblioholic, Rowan Speedwell spends half her time pretending to be a law librarian, half her time pretending to be a database manager, half her time pretending to be a fifteenth-century Aragonese noblewoman, half her time . . . wait a minute . . .  Hmm.  Well, one thing she doesn’t pretend to be is good at math.  She is good at pretending, though.

In her copious spare time (hah) she does needlework, calligraphy and illumination, and makes jewelry.  She has a master’s degree in history from the University of Chicago, is a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, and lives in a Chicago suburb with the obligatory Writer’s Cat and way too many books.

Bitterwood sounds really good. I’ve never read anything like that before, but I think maybe I should. I, too, love medieval stuff.

I’ve loved Medieval romances since I first saw some of those old movies like Robin Hood, Prince Valiant & Ivanhoe – wish there were more!
