ARC Two-fer Review – The Billionaire Bachelor (Billionaire Bad Boys #1) by Jessica Lemmon

As far as romance tropes go, you can’t get more familiar than the whole “Hey! Let’s trick everyone into thinking we’re married and then we fall in love for reals.” It’s a battle tested formula that is a cocktail of tension: resistance, lying, doubt, misgivings, stubbornness. But Jessica Lemmon pulled this one off…. I fell in love with the characters. They had great chemistry and I was intrigued by how they would navigate their circumstances. ~ Afrodyt, Guilty Pleasures

Indecent Proposal

Manwhore. That’s what the board of directors-and the tabloids-thinks of billionaire bachelor Reese Crane. Ordinarily he couldn’t care less, but his playboy past is preventing the board from naming him CEO of Crane Hotels. Nothing-and no one-will keep him from his life’s legacy. They want a settled man to lead the company? Then that’s exactly what he’ll give them.

Merina Van Heusen will do anything to get her parents’ funky boutique hotel back-even marry cold-as-ice-but-sexy-as-hell Reese Crane. It’s a simple business contract-six months of marriage, absolute secrecy, and the Van Heusen is all hers again. But when sparks fly between them, their passion quickly moves from the boardroom to the bedroom. And soon Merina is living her worst nightmare: falling in love with her husband . . .

Reese Crane is the heir to the Crane Hotel chain and is next in line to succeed his father as CEO when he retires. There’s a snag though, the board has issues with his “lifestyle” and he needs to make a complete 180 degree turn in public perception of him pronto.

Merina Van Heusen is the manager of the historic Van Heusen hotel. She literally grew up in the quaint, boutique hotel in downtown Chicago. Merina is quite happy and content with her life until she collides with Reese and he turns her world upside down.

But Jessica Lemmon pulled this one off. After I got over my initial eye rolling thoughts about the familiarity of this particular storyline, I fell in love with the characters. They had great chemistry and I was intrigued by how they would navigate their circumstances.

I really enjoyed this book. The Dynamics between Reese and Merina played out nicely in this atruegemawardbook. Reese, one night stand billionaire who has been burned before needs to improve his image or the board won’t appoint him new CEO, so he enlists the feisty Merina who wants her parents hotel back. She has also been burned and is not sure she wants anything to do with the almighty Crane, but if it gets her hotel back she is willing to sacrifice a few months for keeping the hotel the way it should. Little do they know they both have more in common than they would have thought but in order to get to the happily ever after they will both have to come to terms with their past and be willing to risk a second chance.
