ARC Review – Wicked Sexy Liar (Wild Seasons #4) by Christina Lauren

Sappy, mushy, or fluffy love stories are not ones you’ll usually hear me gushing about, but Christina Lauren wrote one such story that captured my heart and held it captive from beginning to end. ~ Kimber, Guilty Pleasures

When three college besties meet three hot guys in Vegas, anything can—and does—happen. Book Four in the New York Times Wild Seasons series that began with Sweet Filthy Boy (the Romantic Times book of the year that Sylvia Day called “a sexy, sweet treasure of a story”), Dirty Rowdy Thing, and Dark Wild Night.

For two people ambivalent about dating and love, they sure get naked around each other an awful lot . . .

London Hughes is very content to surf daily, tend bar, hang out with her group of friends, and slowly orient herself in the years after college. Everything’s going great and according to the non-plan.

But when a wave knocks her for a loop one morning, then Luke Sutter’s flirtatious smile knocks her for another that evening, she veers slightly off course…and into his path. Sure, he’s a total player, but the Why not—it’s only one night is a persistent voice in her ear.

For his part, Luke’s been on hookup autopilot for so long that he rarely ever pauses to consider what he’s doing. But after an amazing time with London, he realizes that he hasn’t been moving on from a devastating heartbreak so much as he’s been drifting to wherever—and whomever—the current takes him. With London he wants more.

Every relationship involves two people…plus their pasts. And as much as she enjoys her fling with Luke, when London learns about his past—more specifically, who’s in it—everything becomes the brand of complicated she strives to avoid. It’s up to Luke then to change some things in order to try and ensure he’s not something she’ll outright avoid as well.

Wicked Sexy Liar is the fourth and final book in the Wild Seasons series by Christina Lauren. atruegemawardQuickly, before I tell you how awesome it is I wanted to mention the series as a whole. I didn’t find this series, it found me. The ads for the first book kept appearing in my Facebook feed along with the ads that show up on the right side of the page. At the time, I had not read the Beautiful Bastard series nor had I ever heard of Christina Lauren. However, after weeks of seeing the eye-catching cover of Book 1 over and over, I took a chance and bought Sweet Filthy Boy. I devoured it and told everyone I knew about it. So, in a world where the one-click can bring on major frustration and disappointment, this was a one-click I will NEVER regret. These books have meant the world to me so Thank You CLo.

We met Luke and London in the previous books but only briefly (she is Lola’s roommate and he is Mia’s ex-boyfriend – the one who broke her heart), and to find out they were being paired together was a bit of a shock, but I trust my authors and I knew they would make it work. And they did. This couple’s struggles were all so real, as were the characters themselves. I felt like I was living this story. I even found myself having an internal dialogue with Luke on several occasions. I’m not sure I’ve ever done that before. It might explain why when I finished, I closed the book and cried. Not because it was sad but because I was so relieved they made it to the final destination still together with the hope of a promising future. Major sweet feels happening over these two!

On a normal day, London Hughes seems to have her life together. A college graduate in graphic design, she’s content to work as a bartender while she builds her portfolio and can apply for money-making jobs. Bartending also allows her to continue one of her passions which is surfing. One morning while surfing, she tumbles with a wave and it causes her to pause, it totally throws her off her game. Later that night tending bar, she’s still thinking about it and in a moment of weakness the undeniably good-looking and charming Luke approaches, propositions, and conquers. This is a hook-up, mutual for both parties. She is NOT looking for a relationship, least of all with the self-proclaimed manwhore, she just wants companionship for one night. The rest is history but not without ups and downs, lots of feels, humor, and steamy sexing. Luke is unlike any of the other heroes in the series. The other guys are a bit older than the heroines and bring a certain level of maturity to their characters. Luke was 23 and had a lot of growing up to do. He definitely won me over and I was pulling for him like crazy, but it took a while. Seeing his character evolve was a joy and made me love him that much more in the end. The ending was beautifully written and couldn’t have been a more perfect ending to the series.

Sappy, mushy, or fluffy love stories are not ones you’ll usually hear me gushing about, but Christina Lauren wrote one such story that captured my heart and held it captive from beginning to end. This writing duo has proved they can do it all and as long as they continue to write I will continue to read. Wicked Sexy Liar is a journey of young love with two people suffering from trust issues but who refuse to give up on a much deserved happy ever after.

Fans of steamy contemporary romance should be eating up this series. Christina Lauren can take common tropes and turn them into something fresh and exciting and unputdownable. I am sad to see the series end but I’m sure whatever Christina Lauren has in store for us next will no doubt be amazing.

5 fluffy sweet stars
