Cole is back and bossy as ever! Christy is still the coolest “geek” in Bowen. ~ Ashley, Guilty Pleasures
Christy Sheridan has come a long way from the physical and emotional wreck she used to be. She’s made Alden her home and is happily engaged to a man who loves and accepts her for who she is, curves, quirks, and geekiness included. Life is good. Until mommy dearest blows into town to “help” her clueless daughter seal the deal.
Cole Bowen is experiencing a world of firsts: first time in love, first engagement, first Valentine’s, first in-laws. He’s found the woman of his dreams, so he figured dealing with Martha Sheridan was a small price to pay. That is before his monster-in-law plants herself in their home and inside Christy’s head, stirring up old demons and destroying her newly regained self-esteem. And while his hands are full with trying to neutralize their meddlesome guest, a mysterious phone call turns his world upside down.
With ghosts from the past resurfacing and threatening to tear Cole and Christy apart, can they make it to the wedding they both so desperately want, or will heavy secrets send their relationship to the breaking point?

Heavy Secrets is the follow up novella to Heavy Issues. Both are part of the Bowen series. Please read Heavy Issues before reading Heavy Secrets. This a steamy follow up to Cole and Christy’s story. He is as bossy and dominate as ever and she is still a self processed “geek”. The use of word “heavy” has many meanings in this story. Heavy for Cole is the baggage of his mother’s abandonment and for Christy it is her weight. While she has gotten past her emotional eating issues, there are still situations that can trigger her right back into mindless eating. The author handles this subject with such grace and dignity. I was happily surprised with how she presented this subject throughout the story.
Heavy Secrets starts pretty much where the last book left off. Cole and Christy are living together and engaged. He is learning to share with her emotionally instead of only in the bedroom. She is trying not to kill her mother who is staying with them. Both Cole and Christy start to hold back from one another due to the stress of outside issues and the “heaviness” returns. This time though it is Christy who is strong for the both of them. She becomes the strength that Cole needs to finally put his past behind him.
My favorite part of the book is towards the end when Cole makes the ultimate sacrifice for his self processed “geek”. Hint: Star Trek convention in Vegas.
I strongly recommend this series. The author is thoughtful, funny and sexy all at the same time. A purest delight.
