Hell’s Kitchen has nothing on the flames Giancarlo and Garrett ignite at Restaurant Ransom…

Garrett Ransom is America’s hot chef du jour. He has a Michelin-starred restaurant in New York City, a hit reality TV show, and a new man in his bed every week. Yes, he secretly thinks his business partner, Giancarlo “Carlo” Rotolo, is hotter than a ghost pepper, but he would never jeopardize their friendship with a fling. Then Garrett overhears some juicy gossip among the crew and realizes he’ll have to break Giancarlo’s cardinal rule, no banging the staff – for Carlo’s own good, of course. Just a taste of Carlo should be plenty. Long-term relationships aren’t on Garrett’s menu.

Giancarlo’s been in love with Garrett forever. He’s sure Garrett will eventually realize they are destined to be more than business partners. But when Garrett installs his latest boyfriend as their new chef d’cuisine and announces plans to leave Carlo in New York while he opens a second restaurant on the west coast, Carlo is forced to re-evaluate his life.

Can a high-strung British chef and a nice Italian boy from Brooklyn find the perfect fusion of fine-dining and family-style?

From the start of Irene Preston’s A Taste of You I could tell this wasn’t going to be an easy romance and I was right; two men friends for a very long time, business partners in a very successful restaurant, one in love with the other forever, and one completely oblivious to the other’s feelings. Complicated and difficult doesn’t even begin to describe what these two men go through as the move from friends to lovers and face difficult decisions as their lives become even more intertwined.

Sometimes you fall in love with a character immediately and that was exactly how I felt about Giancarlo “Carlo” Rotolo. Smart, funny, dedicated to his business, his partner, and his family he sacrificed much to keep things going when Garrett Ransom, celebrity chef and his business partner was out of town and he did it out of love. Carlo has been in love with Garrett forever but he doesn’t want to be just one of Garrett’s men, he wants to be his forever man but Garrett has intimacy issues that even he doesn’t understand.

At times I really wanted to hate Garrett because he seemed so oblivious to everything going on around him except what was happening in his kitchen. While I believe he appreciated everything Carlo did to keep the business going I’m not sure he realized just how much he owed Carlo for all the sacrifices he made. There’s no doubt that Garrett is self centered, a wee bit conceited, and somewhat temperamental but it was also obvious that when he thought someone was jacking Carlo around that he felt the need to protect Carlo and give him what he deserved. As they moved into a sexual relationship I felt it was more out of caring and I didn’t really feel the lust between them at first. Over time it grew as did their feelings leaving both men trying to figure out where they stood and what they wanted.

While not an easy road to get to their happily ever after, ever step meant something and every leap drew them closer helping them both realize they really were better together in all aspects of their lives.
