Review – Throb by Vi Keeland

One sexy as hell dirty talking Hollywood producer, a reality show contestant who needs to win, and a contract that should keep them apart all adds up to one hot, steamy, and sometimes out of control story that also had a bit of a heart to it. ~ Slick, Guilty Pleasures

The rules:

No dating.
No sex outside of the game.
No disclosing the terms of the contract.

Rules were made to be broken, right?

Eight weeks ago I signed a contract. One that seemed like a good idea at the time. A handsome bachelor, luxury accommodations, and a chance to win a prize my family desperately needed. There were some rules though. Lots of them actually. Follow the script, no dating, sex, or disclosing the terms of the deal. After my self-imposed moratorium on men the last year, it wouldn’t be hard to live up to my end of the bargain…so I thought. Until I realized the deal I’d made was with the devil…and I was in love with his dirty-talking brother.

I’m not a fan of reality television shows but I am a fan of Vi Keeland so I decided to give the first book in her new series Throb a try and despite the book’s backdrop, I enjoyed it quite a lot. One sexy as hell dirty talking Hollywood producer, a reality show contestant who needs to win, and a contract that should keep them apart all adds up to one hot, steamy, and sometimes out of control story that also had a bit of a heart to it.

What I really loved about this story is two people meeting at the absolute worse time and then trying to make the best of a really terrible situation. Cooper and Kate meet at a poker game and the next day he realizes she is a contestant on his brother’s reality show. Even knowing she has a contract and despite her best efforts to stay away these two simply crash into each other and can’t seem to let it go. Honestly I was surprised my e-reader didn’t catch on fire when these two were together. I love that Cooper pushed Kate past her comfort zone because he knew she was holding back. I love that Kate brought out a side of Cooper than no one had seen before even his long time assistant. And I loved that the minute they met you could just tell they were meant to be together. Unfortunately, Kate must continue to compete on the bachelor type dating show and this of course is a source of hurt, confusion, jealousy, and a whole host of other problems that threaten to tear them apart.

One thing that surprised me about this book is that the “bachelor” contestant who really was in to Kate realizes something is going on with her and he does some really nice things for her. I kind of wanted to hate him for causing so much strife between Cooper and Kate and I just couldn’t muster up the hate. I could put my hate squarely where it belonged which was on Miles, Cooper’s brother, and to be honest I really hope karma deals him a good one some day.

I would have loved to give this book 5 stars but without ruining the story Miles does something that forces Cooper into making a choice he shouldn’t have to make. Given Cooper’s status in the community and his wealth, it would have been easy for him to figure something out and crush Miles but he doesn’t and that was very out of character for him leaving me kind of confused and honestly weakening the plot of the book.

Throb was a multifaceted book that I enjoyed immensely; sweet and heartwarming one minute and sinfully sexy the next you really don’t want to miss this one!
