It’s a real treat to be back here at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews to visit about my newest cowboy romance, The Trouble with Texas Cowboys. There’s always trouble brewing in some form in Burnt Boot, Texas what with the Gallagher/Brennan feud that’s been going on for more than a hundred years. But it really takes on new fuel when Jill Cleary moves to Fiddle Creek, the small ranch separating River Bend and Wild Horse, the two enormous ranches belonging to the Gallaghers and Brennans. Both families see her as a way to wiggle their way into owning Fiddle Creek someday and the way to do it might just be through marriage.

Now Jill has to contend with Quaid Brennan and Tyrell Gallagher, both out to win her heart, her hand and of course Fiddle Creek. And Sawyer O’Donnell, the new foreman on Fiddle Creek, that she had no idea she’d have to share a bunk house with.

So someone asked Jill what the difference was in a “one-date cowboy” which is what Quaid and Tyrell both turned out to be (even though they did not give up when she repeatedly told them no after that) and a “keeper” cowboy. I’m going to step aside and let her answer that question.

Hello, folks (Jill waves at the crowd). Most of us women have been roped into a date that we didn’t want to go out on and sometimes it turns out pretty good. Not so with me. I was tired, angry and hungry, which are three bad things to be when your name is Jill Cleary, when Quaid Brennan knocked on the bunkhouse door. He asked me to Sunday dinner after church and for the life of me, I couldn’t think of a single excuse to get out of it. Then I felt guilty when Tyrell Gallagher showed up a little while later and wanted me to go to supper with him the same night. I figured I owed it to him since the folks in Burnt Boot would think I was taking sides with the Brennans if I didn’t give them equal time.

One date was all it took for me to realize these two cowboys were out for Fiddle Creek. They moved too fast, talked too much and were staking their territory rather than getting to know me.

But now Sawyer, my new roommate…that was a different story. He started off slow and got to know me as a person. He wasn’t interested in gaining control of a ranch and his sense of humor kept me laughing even during the tough times. He was definitely a keeper but I had a lot of trust issues to overcome and wasn’t sure if he was my keeper. Still, when I got ready to find a keeper of my very own, he would be just like Sawyer O’Donnell.

What would make a cowboy a keeper in your books, folks?

  1. Gotta love those cowboys and Carolyn Brown knows exactly how to write those sexy cowboys right!

  2. What would make a cowboy a keeper, besides the obvious, would be loyalty, a sense of humor & a good heart!

  3. Since i’m from Europe (Slovenia) we don’t have any cowboys near..bad luck for me huh?

  4. It would be his seense of humor, compassionaate nature and protective personality. I can’t wait to read this one. Thanks for the opportunity.

  5. A cowboy is a keeper if he is smart, committed to his family and funny. A man needs a sense of humor!
