ARC Review – Keeping Mr. Right Now (Kisses in the Sand) by Robin Bielman

While this is my first book by author Robin Bielman it won’t be my last, I simply adore her writing style, character development and attention to detail. ~ Slick, Guilty Pleasures

A temporary agreement neither could keep…

Brainy, organized Sophie Birch is no beach bunny. In fact, she’s totally out of her element among the sun-bronzed crowd at a film festival in beautiful White Strand Cove. When a surf lesson introduces her to Zane Hollander, suddenly she’s up close and personal with the world’s sexiest surf star. But what can a great-looking, experienced athlete possibly see in a klutzy out-of-towner who’s never set foot in the ocean?

Zane Hollander’s playboy reputation has never been a problem…until recently. Now his management team wants him on his best behavior to entice a meaningful new sponsor. Sophie Birch is the perfect girl to help reform his image. She’s genuine and respected—and their relationship is purely fictional. But the more Sophie blooms under the beachy sun, the more Zane knows he’ll just break her heart. Because nothing’s more important to Zane than following the tide.

I really love a book where the main characters see something in each other or bring out a side they don’t let out often and that is exactly what happens in Keeping Mr. Right Now by author Robin Bielman. A pro surfer with a reputation connects with a brainiac event planner and they both soon realize that the other is truly special. These characters were so easy to love, their story was different and special, and while there was definite heat between them their relationship took some time to grow which was perfect for them. While this is my first book by this author it won’t be my last, I simply adore her writing style, character development and attention to detail.

Sophie Birch rejected the career she was “made for her” according to her parents and is now an event planner. With her boss out of commission, Sophie’s first big solo gig is in California for a surf film festival. For a Montana girl who has never even seen the ocean, it’s the chance of a life time.

Honestly, it was so easy to fall for Sophie with her wide-eyed wonderment, her somewhat naive nature, and her off the wall brain talk that she can’t seem to help. I really admired her for stepping out of her comfort zone, for making friends while on a job, and for taking some really big chances. Her character really grew during the course of this book and while I have no doubt this side of her was always in her lurking it took some really special people to make her see it in herself. The transformation was pretty awesome and it was a joy to watch.

Surfer Zane Hollander is magic in the water but his personal reputation has suffered quite a bit. Now Zane wants to be a spokesman for an organization that works to keep the world’s oceans clean and in order to do so he must clean up his image. He wants this ambassadorship very badly and plans to do everything to get it and then he meets Sophie, a woman who turns his life completely upside down and he doesn’t even know why or how she did it.

I was amazed at how easily Sophie and Zane fell into a friendship despite their very different lives. The moments they shared getting to know one another, sharing pieces of themselves they hadn’t shared with anyone else, and learning to accept the other’s word that there was something special about them were sweet and unexpected. Early on it was easy to see that they were developing a friendship and while they both wanted more it took them awhile to get there which was so perfect for them. That’s not to say they didn’t have some moments of pure craziness especially on Zane’s part but in the end what mattered was the sense of rightness they both felt when they were in each other’s company.

While more on the sweet side of romance, Keeping Mr. Right Now was pretty perfect and I can’t wait to check out what else author Robin Bielman has to offer.
