Review – Sheltered by Charlotte Stein

It’s very clear Ms. Stein has a natural talent for writing a melt the sheets sex scene. ~ Guilty Pleasures

scsDescription:
Evie has lived her entire life under her abusive father’s thumb. He controls everything. Where she goes to college, who she sees, what she does. But when she meets Van—a punk who shows her how different life could be—she realizes how much she’s been missing.

Van offers her excitement, protection, love…and most of all, sex—even if he’s at first reluctant to give her all the things she’s been craving. She wants to explore this new world of arousal and desire, but Van is only too aware of how fragile she is, how innocent…

And how much is at stake, when their love is forbidden.

Sheltered is typical forbidden romance story. With the exception that Evie is not just sheltered from a certain type of boy; she has been sheltered from everything. Her father controls every aspect of her life even down to the food she eats. Once she lays eyes on Van at the neighbors her body starts to want what her mind knows she can never have.

Van is from a completely different world. He’s covered in tattoos, wears edgy tattered clothes, has punk hair and smokes pot. He is absolutely what she has been taught to avoid and yet she can’t seem to stay away from him.

These two find a way to share some time when her parents go out every Wednesday and he is able to show her exactly what she’s been missing out on.

I’m honestly torn with my thoughts on this book. The sex is steamy and descriptive and it’s very clear Ms. Stein has a natural talent for writing a melt the sheets sex scene. On the other hand that is all this book left me with. I didn’t feel a deep connection with the characters and it seemed to be a bit rushed at times. I wanted to know more about Evie and Van. By no means do I think that a couple has to know each other for any particular length of time before they fall madly in love, but given the background Evie had and the depth of her seclusion from the outside world their journey together just seemed to be lacking a certain spark.

The plot line with her father left me confused. It seemed to be thrown in the story to cause contention, but was not really explained well, in my opinion. When the book ended I was left with a lot of unanswered questions.

Overall, if you are looking for a quick spicy story about forbidden love and desires, you will most likely enjoy this read. The sex is scorching hot and is written very well. Just enjoy it for what it is and don’t look for a deep emotional bond because you may not find it within these pages.
