Ava’s Interview with Cassi Carver

THREE lucky commenters will win Slayer’s Kiss, book one and Shadow’s Rising book two.

Cassi: Hi everyone and thanks for having me, Ava and Didi!! I love visiting Guilty Pleasures!

A: So it’s release week for book 2, Shadow Rising, of your spicy urban fantasy series! What’s release day like for an author?

C: Release day is such an exciting time!! As I’m sure you can imagine, between writing, editing, and marketing, bringing a book into the world takes months (sometimes years!)! By release day, I’ve invested months of my life into it and everything is done, including going over the galley for the print book, so it’s such a sweet feeling or relief and accomplishment!! I can just sit back and say, for better or worse—here it is, world! J

A: How many books are currently in the series and what are you working on?

C: Well, Shadow Rising is the second book and it’s an urban fantasy series that is best read in order—BUT on December 11th, Abbey and Jaxon’s story comes out. It’s book 2.5, The Silverwing’s Sorceress, and we decided to write that one a little more stand-alone. It was my first paranormal romance novella, and it just a lot of fun!

Right now, I’m writing book 3.0, Dark Flight, which is the third full-length novel in the series. That’s due to my publisher in November and should be out in May 2013.

A: Speaking of book 3.0, are we going to be seeing any more of Gavin?

C: Yes! Some serious stuff happens in Shadow Rising that Kara and Gavin have to deal with in book 3.0. But Shadow Rising—the one that came out this week—that’s Julian’s turn to get some face time with our heroine, Kara. And honestly, some parts of it made me cry. Kara is really vulnerable for the first time, and it fills me with hope for her, but also kind of breaks my heart.

A: Do you ever have fans comment on the love triangle aspect of the series?

C: All the time!! LOL You’d think there would be one hero who would be a favorite, but I’d say it’s about an even split between Team Gavin and Team Julian! And what’s funny is, when a reader picks one, they pretty much want the other to jump off a cliff.

I know you’re a Gavin fan, Ava, but just this week I got an e-mail suggesting I find Gavin his own woman so Kara and Julian could have their happy ever after! They’ve both been called some names for the other team, and I think it just has to do with what type of hero resonates with a reader—what she finds alluring and fulfilling. J

A: So would you consider writing another love triangle in the future?

C: Heck no!! This crap is hard! LOL It’s as difficult for me to navigate as it is for the readers—maybe more so. I don’t want to disappoint readers, but I also want to do justice to the characters and the series arc.

A: So do you have more planned for the series after book 3.0 in May?

Yes! There is some crazy stuff in the works, but this will not be a never-ending series. Everyone is going to get their happy ever after! It may take a while—but we’ll get them there! J

Thank you so much for having me as a guest today and I want to give away some books!! I’m giving three sets of book one, Slayer’s Kiss, and book two, Shadow Rising, to three winners who comment below. You can just say hi if you want to, but if you want to get adventurous, let me know what you would look for in a hero!  Winners will be selected on 10/5 using random.org

Hugs, y’all!

Shadow Rising Blurb:
Her lover is back from the dead…but now there’s hell to pay.

The Shadow Slayers, Book 2

When Kara Reed learns her bondmate, Julian, is truly dead, and that Gavin has seemingly skipped town, she figures things have hit rock bottom. But soon, a string of bizarre accidents has her doubting those closest to her. And to make matters worse, the demon-king’s brand carved into her best friend Abbey’s stomach is deteriorating by the day.

Then a powerful coven of witches issues Kara an ultimatum. Bring them the blood of a true fallen angel—the only thing that will heal Abbey—or die. Kara would do anything to help her friend. Problem is, the only fallen angel she’s seen lately is the disoriented black-wing who attacked her scouts. One who looks suspiciously like Julian. Getting his blood might be easier if he was more interested in kissing her than killing her.

Caught between a coven of vengeful witches and a murderous dead lover, Kara must deliver the blood, heal the slow poison of Abbey’s brand, and save Julian from being consumed by the Abyss. But to do this, she may need the help of the one man she swore never to trust again…Gavin.

Product Warnings
This book contains an angry demon returning from the dead, a clan lord hiding a terrible secret, and a hunted heroine cracking open a can of whoop-ass. Watch out for creepy kitties, exploding bad guys, and some very sudsy shower sex.

Ava’s SHADOW RISING review

Slayer’s Kiss Blurb
When the past flies in your face, clip its wings.

The Shadow Slayers, Book 1

Kara Reed is a supernatural failure. But where her magic falls short, her fists get the job done. The criminal element doesn’t stand a chance once she hits San Diego’s dark streets.

When two smoking-hot tenants move in next door, she thinks her love life might finally be heating up. Just being near Gavin and Julian is enough to make her want to offer her body on a platter.

Gavin and Julian know it’s only a matter of time before the truth comes out. They’re fallen angels sent to watch over the king’s daughter, one of the last females of her kind. Trouble is, she doesn’t seem to think she needs watching-unless they’re watching her shimmy out of her clothes.

No matter how tempting her guardians, Kara’s not about to let anything stop her from tracking down a sadistic killer who carves into his victims and leaves them for dead. Even when she realizes her target may be the very scourge of heaven from which her angels swore to protect her…

Warning: Contains a kick-ass heroine with a foul mouth, a kind heart and a raging libido, and two fallen angel warriors who wouldn’t have her any other way. Watch out for sex in the clouds, a magical island of hedonism and a love triangle that gives new meaning to the term “hot-wings.”
