K: HAPPY RELEASE DAY! Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit with us today at Guilty Pleasures and for answering some of our questions. We are such huge fans of ALL of your books. We wrestled to see which one of us could interview you. Squeeee, I won!
OK, now that my fan-girl moment is over, let’s get to it, shall we?
2012 looks to be an incredibly busy year for you. You’ve got 5 (is that right?) releases between May and Aug AND you are now self-publishing some of your stories. How is the self-publishing going and what have you found the pros and cons to be?
S: Actually it is 4 new releases between May and August in addition to the re-release of my historical “Strictly Forbidden.” “Embrace Me At Dawn” released on May 29th, the latest in the Doomsday Brethren series, today of course is “Mine To Hold,” which is Tyler’s story and a Wicked Lovers book. July 3rd is “Arresting Desire,” a novella within the “Hot In Handcuffs Anthology I did with Sylvia Day and Shiloh Walker, and then later this Summer will be the third “Masters of Ménage” tale- “Their Virgin Concubine that I am co-authoring with my buddy Lexi Blake! It’s a busy Summer to say the least!
K: Mine to Hold from your Wicked Lovers series releases today. Its Tyler’s long awaited story. We know a little about him from the previous books, can you tell us something about the girl who finally tames Tyler the man-whore Murphy?
S: Delaney is someone from Tyler’s past that was a very complicated and life changing relationship for him. He has to decide what is important in life after she comes back into his life, and Delaney doesn’t make it easy. She’s stubborn and driven and very sure of what she thinks. Their story is filled with action, suspense and very emotional!
K: I recently read your Sexy Capers series in preparation for the July 3 release of “Arresting Desire,” in the Hot in Handcuffs anthology with Sylvia Day and Shiloh Walker, and I must say this series is just fantastic. I understand the first two books, Bound and Determined and Strip Search were re-releases. I’m thrilled that you did, but what made you re-visit this series?
S: When the idea for this anthology was presented to me I knew there were still some stories to tell about some of these characters and I welcomed the opportunity to work a great project with great friends and be able to get at least one of these tales out there. I’m thrilled readers are interested in reading more about them!
K: You also write as Shelley Bradley, is there a difference in the writing style of Shelley and Shayla?
S: There really isn’t a lot of difference in the writing style. I have always just tried to write lots of depth in emotion into each story and the choice to use the name Shayla Black more was only because I like the letter A more than the letter E. I’m kidding. Hopefully, everyone feels they get the same quality of story from me regardless of what name it is published under.
K: What’s the last book you read and the one in your TBR pile you are dying to get your hands on?
S: I just read Lexi Blake’s “Man With The Golden Cuffs” and it was wonderful! I can’t wait to read Sylvia Days follow up to “Bared To You.”
K: You write contemporary, paranormal, erotic and historical romance stories. Of these sub-genres which would you rather read and which would you rather write?
S: Oh wow! I love reading and writing in all of them! I like to go from genre to genre when reading to be entertained. It really depends upon my mood what I happen to pick up next. When writing, I like to move from genre to genre to keep the ideas fresh.
K: Your characters, both male and female, always have that level of complexity that make them interesting and intrigue us to want to know more about them and wish for them that HEA every girl dreams of. Has there ever been a character or couple that gave you a hard time while trying to write their story?
S: They ALL give me trouble! LOL Sometimes I think I know exactly where I am going when I start out and then the character does a complete 180 degree turn that I was not expecting. Shock and Lucan both surprised me a little while I was writing “Embrace Me At Dawn,” to the degree I actually thought to myself, “He is NOT going to go there is he?” Xander is giving me some trouble right now. He’s very bossy and controlling. LOL
K: Can you tell us something about yourself that’s not in your bio (sorry, but we know it by heart)?
S: I married my first love and write Happily Ever After’s and Love At First Sight stories because I truly believe in them because it happened to me.
K: I know you love music, if you were to hit shuffle on your ipod, what are the first 5 songs?
S: Bruno Mars – It Will Rain, Christina Perri – A Thousand Years, Valora – I Waited For You, We Are The Fallen – I Will Stay, Rev Theory – Broken Bones
K: We love talking about our Guilty Pleasures, what are some of yours?
S: Rock Band! LOL Also, reality television shows like The Bachelorette. I love The Vampire Diaries and I also enjoy just lounging by the pool with friends when the weather gets nice. A Coach purses. Wait- I don’t feel guilty about the Coach purses. LOL

Shayla is an author that has been on a wish list of a long time. I love her covers and I am a total cover junkie. But I keep hearing good reviews. Congratulations. Hope to be reading you soon.
