Kitty’s Review – Bared to You (Crossfire #1) by Sylvia Day

Our journey began in fire…

Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness–beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds… and desires.

The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn’t tear us apart…

Sylvia Day has brought two very complex character’s together and has written a story that is so compelling and deep that you will not be able to put it down until the story is finished.

Gideon and Eva are two people who probably do not belong together. They both know it and are trying to find a way to make things work. Sparks fly when they meet; they are drawn together like fire and gasoline. The problem is, no matter how hard Gideon tries, Eva keeps running away. Both are very jealous and extremely possessive. Gideon has never truly committed to a woman and Eva’s past has her feeling extremely vulnerable.

There is no way to describe this book without spoilers. There are several hints as to what has transpired in both of their pasts. Eva’s story comes out in Bared to You and you know that there was some kind of sexual molestation regarding Gideon in his past as well. I give Ms. Day a lot of credit for tackling not one, but two child molestation story lines. Then you bring in Cary, Eva’s roommate who has his own past and problems, and things become extremely volatile. Gideon’s family is probably a whole story in itself.

I could not put this book down. There are so many back-stories that tie in with Gideon and Eva but it is in no way confusing. As the story progresses, you ask yourself a lot of questions. Why is Gideon trying so hard? Why isn’t Eva trying to get him to open up more about his past with her (is she that self-centered)? How can their sex lives be so explosive (yes, they have extremely hot sex throughout this book) when they both have terrible pasts? Why won’t Eva admit that she is a sexual submissive? You will not stop turning the pages in this book. You will be breathless and frustrated by the end and will want the story to continue. I actually yelled, “You’ve got to be kidding me!” when I turned the last page.

Now, just one thing before I end this review. I have read other reviews of the book that are comparing this to Fifty Shades. Please stop! Mr. Cross and Mr. Gray may have similar backgrounds and MAY HAVE similar sexual problems but there is no way that you could compare the two books. Silvia Day has written a beautiful book filled with love, laughter and characters that draw you into their lives and have you hoping for the HEA. I cannot wait to see where it leads.

Congratulations, Ms. Day on a wonderful book. Bared to You was a provocative and extremely erotic book filled with humor, suspense and love. I have not been drawn into a story or character’s like Gideon and Eva in a very long time. I look forward to the second book in the Crossfire Series and cannot wait to see where you bring Gideon and Eva and what Gideon’s story is.
