Alyn’s Thoughts:
It is all too often that when people think of blackmail, they think of high powered executives that are trying to weasel their way into more money. At least that is what Elena thought until she became the victim of one such scheme. Why would anyone blackmail an office manager? She had no fortune, she had no assets, but she did have a secret and it was one she planned on keeping. Now she is stuck because she must hurt a coworker in order to prevent her secret from getting out and possibly getting arrested. If she doesn’t do what Matt asks, she could go to jail and her brother would be left without her. She simply could not allow that to happen.
Kyler can’t believe that he is being set up. Not only is that low life Matt trying to frame him so he loses his job as Vice President, but he is using an innocent woman to do it. When he approaches her to try and stop the plan from happening, he soon realizes she is not going to back down unless he forces her to. She is hiding something and he has to figure out what so that he can keep his job and his reputation. After trying and failing, he takes a gamble. At the flip of a coin, Elena winds up at his home and is not going anywhere until a resolution is made.
I am doing my best to make sure I don’t add any spoilers so I can’t say much more than the fact that the two find a significant spark and Elena uncovers a BDSM dungeon while at Kyler’s home. It is always fun when you see a character unexpectly get caught trying out a spanking bench.
Kyler and Elena have an interesting dynamic. Because of Elena’s secret, she has a difficult time trusting people. With Kyler being backstabbed, he has similar issues. This can pose a problem since Kyler is a Dom and trust is everything. Elena’s introduction into the lifestyle is sweet and I love how Kyler explains the difference between playing with a sub and having sex with one. So many people misunderstand the power exchange as strictly sexual and it is always nice to see an author clarify that it is not always about sex. It opens the door to their relationship and unfolds in a subtle but beautifully mild BDSM story.
