Angeline’s Review – Club Shadowlands (Masters of the Shadowlands #1) by Cherise Sinclair

Visit Cherise’s web-site

Description:
Her car disabled during a tropical storm, Jessica Randall discovers the isolated house where she’s sheltering is a private bondage club. At first shocked, she soon becomes aroused watching the interactions between the Doms and their subs. But she’s a professional woman–an accountant–and surely isn’t a submissive . . . is she?

Master Z hasn’t been so attracted to a woman in years. But the little sub who has wandered into his club intrigues him. She’s intelligent. Reserved. Conservative. After he discovers her interest in BDSM, he can’t resist tying her up and unleashing the passion she hides within.

Angeline’s Thoughts:
It’s an absolute honor to review any book by Cherise Sinclair. I especially love Club Shadowlands (Book 1, Masters of the Shadowlands series) since it was one of the very first BDSM themed books I read years ago. Not only is the writing good, but Cherise is very responsible when it comes to the lifestyle. Just check out her website and you will see how much she cares for her readers.

Jessica drives her car into a ditch on a back country road. Thankfully, she’s unharmed, but she must walk about a mile in severely windy and rainy conditions to a home she passed. Not knowing it’s a bondage club, she seeks refuge inside. For admittance, she is asked to read and sign papers. If she wasn’t so cold and wet, she may have read them in their entirety. But she doesn’t. She reads a little and signs her name. Still not knowing just what type of club it is or what the rules are.

Master Z is a calming presence for Jessica since the moment he is in the room. He helps her undress and shower, drying her off. While, most of us would balk at a strange man doing this, Jessica was still recovering from her freezing walk. Maybe not completely in her right mind, but aware enough that she was not in danger.

Once Jessica realized the type of club she was really in, she was all about experiencing something new. Jessica is a strong, independent, assertive woman who is willing and wants to learn. Fascinated by her surroundings, she was not going to let the opportunity to explore pass her by.

After some exploring, Jessica breaks a rule. According to the papers she signed, she is due a punishment. Master Z felt terribly guilty for having to administer this punishment. They say he reads minds, but more so he reads people’s emotions at that given time. Master Z sensed her fear, but also her arousal. He forced her to be bound to a bench and spanked. All the while, he was loving, guiding, and reassuring.

One may wonder, could this happen in real life? A person at their very first bondage club, getting spanked for a punishment they did not understand? Not likely. She probably would have been escorted out or not allowed in to begin with. But this is where we must suspend real life into its category and remember that we are reading fiction. Excellently written fiction.

After her recovery from the punishment, Jessica went back to the entryway to wait out the storm. Being the curious woman that she is, she asked a lot of questions to help her get a grasp on the BDSM lifestyle. She decided to have no regrets and went back in.

The story continues on with Jessica’s eagerness to learn and experience. Master Z is with her and she feels safe. He loves her curves. He falls for her intelligence. She’s brave. And he takes notice in that, endearing her to him all the more.

Club Shadowlands is a wonderful introduction into the Masters of the Shadowlands series. We learn how the club works and meet several Doms that get books of their own. I love Master Z and Jessica. These two characters deserve their HEA and I was so happy when I got to it! Having re-read Club Shadowlands for this review, I’m excited to continue on and read them all again.

Ms. Sinclair is a must read author for me. I have enjoyed all of her books. I look forward to many more from this wonderful author.

    Great Review Angeline!

Great review, Angelina, for a great book. Master Z was my first and will always be one of my favorite fantasy Doms. I had almost forgotten about how he cared for her in the beginning of the story. *melt* I need to reread this, but bought it before I had a Kindle, so I only have it on PDF. Maybe I’ll convert it to my Kindle.)

I agree, as does Cherise, that the punishment wouldn’t have happened in a real club. But it certainly was a hot scene and a fantasy many readers held, I’m sure.

Oh, I really do have to re-read this book (and I just reread it last summer preparing for Master Raoul’s story to come out ).

Thanks for letting me revisit Club Shadowlands, Angeline!

Thank you Ava and Kallypso! I think Master Z melts a lot of us! It was so much fun reading this book again. I’m so happy I did.

I love the punishment scene. I know I’m not alone in that. I thought it was a good time to remind readers that we read for enjoyment and it’s important to separate real life from fiction sometimes. It was a great scene to state that.

    Happy Reading everyone!!
