“Behave.” Jessica Blaine scowled at Demon and wagged a finger in front of his nose. “No one word answers. Remember your body language – no folding your arms and intimidating Ms. Johnson.”

“I still don’t see why I have to do this.” Demon crossed his arms, heard Jessica’s hiss, and promptly linked his hands behind his back.

“Because it’s good publicity for The Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Now. March. I’ll be standing to the left of the camera. Remember if you blank out, take a few deep breaths, and say something non-committal. You remember what we practiced?” Jessica gave Demon a little push indicating he should turn around.

“So you want to know…yada yada I repeat whatever dumb question she’s asked and pause for fifteen seconds, then I answer with something so banal no one will even listen.”

“Angel Johnson’s not dumb. Don’t underestimate her.”

Demon didn’t bother to answer; he hadn’t met an intelligent journalist in his entire lifetime. Sure, some existed, but they were the Edward Murrows, the Walter Cronkites, the Peter Jennings of the world, all dead and gone, and definitely not some flame-haired beauty who looked like a playboy centerfold.

Ten minutes later, he was sweating like a pig under the glare of a zillion camera lights. It took all his doing not to fold his arms.

“Thank you for agreeing to this interview, Mr. Natchez. I understand you go by the nickname Demon. And there’s a story behind the name. Can you give us some insight?”

“I legally changed my name to Deaglán Éamonn Máenach Odhrán Natchez when I was eighteen to honor the men who turned my sorry ass around.” Crap on a log. How in heck was he supposed to get through the next fifteen minutes?

“Can you tell us a little bit about the airshow tomorrow?”

Some of the tension went out of his shoulders. Jumping was a topic he could talk about for hours. “The proceeds all go to The Boys and Girls Club. That’s important. We donate everything and pay for every expense. Every admission goes entirely to the Club.”

“Thank you for elucidating that.” Ms. Johnson had a squint to her eyes that spoke of frustration and anger. “Can you now tell me about the actual airshow?”

“It’s a night show. Kind of a Valentine’s Day celebration. Going to be chocolate and raspberry and diamond-brite. My wife is a chocoholic and she came up with the idea for the show.” Demon couldn’t stop his wide grin. Damn, but Jacinta was the ace in his life.

“You and your wife just married a few days ago. Is this some kind of valentine present?”

“Nope.”

“Nope?”

“Look it lady, it’s taken me months to come up with the right present for my wife, who’s a confirmed chocoholic. It’s a surprise and there’s no way in hell you’re getting the details out of me.” Demon squinted at Jessica who was making cutting motions over her throat and deliberately folded his arms, stretched his long legs to the fullest, so they came into contact with the shiny black patent pumps the announcer wore, and grinned when she flinched and almost – almost glared at him.

“There are thousands of people out there who are excited about the show tomorrow. They’re all going to be anxious to hear what you have planned for your wife for Valentine’s Day. Why deny them?”

Shit on a bank. He was so fucking screwed. All that charity money fading away. “Fine. She’s going on a private tour of the New Jersey M&M factory, and at the end, she’s going to be drowned in a shower of M&M’s that say Demon & Jacinta.”

Damn it. He’d ruined everything. And then, all of a sudden, Jacinta’s face bobbed up behind Jessica’s.
Jessica grabbed Jacinta’s wrist.

Jacinta threw Jessica off like yesterday’s melted snow, grinned, ran to him, and landed in his lap.

“Really? Really? Really? I get my own M&M factory for a day? You know we can never eat the Demon & Jacinta M&M’s. I will need another supply.”

He had so figured that into his plans. Knew that those M&Ms with their names on them would be forever frozen in the new chest freezer he bought and installed in the garage. No one, no one in the world, the universe, the galaxy, was more sentimental than his wife. And he so loved her, from his heart’s bottom.
