WHAT’S THIS BOOK ABOUT?
When the recently widowed Melinda (Mel)Monroe sees an ad for a midwife/nurse practitioner in Virgin River she decides that it would be the perfect place to get over heartache and re-energize her love of being a midwife and nurse practitioner. Virgin River does not resemble the picturesque town she thought she was moving to and to top it off, the town doctor would be happy if she just went back to where she came from.  Melinda realize she might have made a mistake in coming to Virgin River, but a newborn left on the doorstep of the clinic and a former marine changes her plans and changes her life.

Piper’s THOUGHTS
This was my first Robyn Carr book and boy I am glad I found her. I saw DiDi’s post about Robyn joining the Happy Holidays Celebration and being the noisy person I am, I googled this author DiDi was so excited about. Boy howdie (as Mel would say) am I glad I was noisy.

What I loved about this book was not only the main characters Mel and Jack, but the town people and the town its self. Mel finds that the town and local bar owner Jack Sheridan are just what she needs to help her heal from tragedy. I loved Jack (as well as all the former marines from Jack’s command who invade the town for hunting and fishing). He is a former marine who as seen his share of war in his 20 years of service, but once he sets eyes on Mel this confirmed 40 year old bachelor is done for. The struggle that Mel goes through in healing, and learning it is okay for her to love again is written so real and personal that I felt like I was going through this with my best friend.  I really enjoyed reading the love story between Jack and Mel.  I loved that Jack was this bad ass marine, but he was a big softie when it came to Mel. He knew he wanted her, and he waited, and the reward was that much sweeter.

I enjoyed the interaction between Mel and Doc Mullins and looked forward to their relationship growing in future books. What is wonderful about this book is that the characters are regular people with real world issues.  Robyn takes you to a town, and you fall in love with the people that could be your neighbor and in love with a town you want to live in.  This book made me laugh out loud and shed a couple of tears.

This is wonderful story of love, hope and learning to move on when you think you can no longer can.  Do not miss out on this book or the series for that matter.  I am currently on book 7 Paradise Valley, because I have not been able to tear myself away from Virgin River.

Thanks Carol, you will not be disappointed. Kat, I would say you can read as stand alone, but you would miss some great stories in the process. Robyn does a great job of giving you back ground when she brings in someone from a previous book to continue thier story but reading them in order is so much better. Kathleen, I agree 100%! I can not stop reading this series.
