Christmas Lights and Memories

One of my wonderful Christmas memories was the trip I took with my family to the Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas. There were lights everywhere, and it looked magical! The coach in this photo reminds me of the pumpkin Cinderalla rode in to go the ball. There was a family riding inside, and the way the little girl’s face was lit up, I knew she felt like a princess. And that felt like Christmas to me– making wonderful memories with your family, and the magical feeling of knowing that wishes can come true.

Happy Holidays!

Toni Davis’s Christmas wish list
1. Springing my best friend from the psych ward.
2. Living somewhere that doesn’t have coffins in the basement. Occupied coffins.
3. Finding Mr. Right. Please make him tall, dark, handsome, and alive.

This Christmas isn’t so merry for Toni. Her best friend’s been locked up in a mental hospital ever since she told the police she was attacked by vampires, and the only way for Toni to get her out is to prove that bloodsuckers really do exist. So she’s taken a job as a bodyguard for the Undead, but she gets more than she bargained for, especially when she meets Ian MacPhie, a Scottish rascal looking for Ms. Right.

Although Ian’s nearly five centuries old, he looks and acts like a twenty-seven-year-old hunk.

How can a dead man be so damn sexy? Could Mr. Wrong be Mr. Right? One forbidden kiss could lead to an eternity of passion—and all it takes is one moment under the mistletoe .

  1. When my hubby was in the Navy, we came home to visit one year. We had to leave on the 26th to back overseas. We ended up having to stop in England, got stuck there for a few days. I didn’t get to see much to my disappointment. We had to stay in the barracks and well it was the three of us, we all had to share a twin size bed. I was pregnant with my son. Oh and there was no heater. Well there may have been but it didn’t work.

Also, visiting Disney World anytime of the year is like Christmas. We went in the summer and the parades and lights were fabulous.

This year is the fist year I got hubs to put lights out. The kids are loving it! Okay me too!

  2. Great memory and recipe. Where I live, there is a drive thru Christmas light display and my family and I go every year. Each year, the entrance fee goes to help a certain charity. This year, it was the Make a Wish Foundation.

  3. Hi Kerrelyn! I definitely need to read your books since I enjoy vampire stories. The lights can definitely evoke the holiday season. I love seeing them everywgere.

  4. This yr the kids and I are taking a small trip, I guess you could say. We’re headed up northern Idaho from Oregon to spend a week with my parents. Hopefully there’s snow for the kids b/c usually there isn’t here. Other than this lil trip, we’ve never gone anywhere for the holidays.
We hang tons of lights up though, outside and inside. Speaking of, I need to finish the inside windows. Guess that’s on my ‘to do’ list for the day. lol Thanks for the chance at this most awesome giveaway!

  5. I have been to San Antonio at Christmas time. The lights are to die for. Walking down the riverwalk,to my favorite Mexican restaurant is amazing!

    Thank you Kerrelyn for sharing!

  6. For Christmas my family has always gone to each others houses, but we all live within 25 to 30 minutes to each other! So I’ve never been on a holiday vacation, though I’d love to =D
I would love to win a copy of this book because I love Kerrelyn’s writing

  7. Love the pictures! It reminded me of going to Domino Farms in Ann Arbor, Michigan to tour their light display that they put up every year. I also love to drive around and see lights on houses. Thanks for the giveaway!

  8. I’ve always loved Christmas lights, but as a kid my dad would never put them up. One year I begged and begged and he finally gave on two days before Christmas. The whole family was out in the below freezing cold to put Christmas lights on the house…and they didn’t come down until July.

Christmas lights still say Christmas to me and I love to drive around looking at the lights.

  9. Where ever the pic is from it is gorgeous. Love looking at the lights at Christmas, especially when there is a little snow on the ground.

  10. Christmas Eve is also my grandparents anniverary. We also go together the whole family. The last few years their health has gotten so bad we are unable to do the big family thing, but I always try to see them on christmas eve

  11. that recipe looks awesome! think im going to have to try them this weekend!
we went to austria for christmas one year.. was really cold.. and it was so weird with the different traditions.. we went to someones house to eat supper.. we got there at like noon, and didnt leave until after 10 pm.. there was non stop food!! they served one course after another.. then bread and cheese.. then desserts.. then they sent you outside to have a walk, then back in to have the meals again!

  12. When I was a kid we lived in the sub burbs of Chicago and my mom would take me downtown to see the Christmas displays. Carson Pierre Scoot would decorate the wondows all around their store with the story of rudoloh and you could walk around the store and see the whole story

  13. In my entire life I have only been away from home one time during Christmas. Went to Colorado to visit my grandmother, and while it was pretty I missed home. So while I love to go on vacations I really think that we will spend our Christmas breaks at home.

  14. I love the way San Antonio does Christmas. Just so magical. We have a light show in our town where you drive through with the family and it’s really beautiful. And luckily the houses in our neighborhood all have lights which just makes everything so festive. I love Kerrelyn’s Vampires. I haven’t read this book yet. Thanks for this opportunity. Happy Holidays.

  15. Looks like a great book but I don’t think I want a vampire. The holiday trip I would love to make would be to Colonial Williamsburg and stay in one of the historic homes in the historic village. The picture make it looks so wonderful. I think it would be fun to dress up and really get into the the whole experience.

  16. I love driving around looking at light displays. There is a street in downtown Baltimore that is famous for their light display and is spectacular. Love, love, love it!!

  17. My favorite supernatural/paranormal creature is vampires. I love to read about them in a variety of ways…LMAO, scary as hell, romantic etc. TY for this giveaway chance! This book sounds great. Also, thanks for posting the yummy recipes. Cheers! DeAnna @SacredmOOn1

  18. I remember driving around my neighborhood looking for 2 specific houses. One house was the Griswalts of the neighborhood. They had SOO many lights, and each year it seemed to keep growing. We thought that they were overflowing into their neighbors’ yards. I am going this year to look for them.

One house had a bay window that the people would decorate for the holidays. But I remember that they moved and the new owners didn’t do it for a year or two. I guess they got tired of people knocking on their door, wanting to know when they were going to decorate the window. Because that year, they decorated the window. As a Santa’s Workshop MASSACRE! It was horrific! But it was awesome. It was crazy. And then after that, they didn’t decorate the window anymore, and I don’t think they have been asked why. LOL

  20. Each year we were in my hometown at Christmas time, my late-husband would pile me and my son in the car and we would go down Christmas Tree Lane. It’s over a mile of Christmas Lights and decorations. It was a thirty year tradition. After he died, my son took over the driving and the tradition goes on with his small family.
I would love to take your book with me this year, but I’d be a bit afraid he would fry in all the lights!

  21. My holiday trip I want to share was to Las Vegas, NV. My husband got me tickets to see Brooks and Dunn during December. I was so excited to see Las Vegas at Christmas and see if they added any lights. The answer was no extra lights but that was ok because the Concert was GREAT!!!

  22. I LUV Kerrelyn’s vampire series! Funny and sexy.
I remember working for Disney World in the Magic Kingdom for several years back in college and the holidays were always special with all the lights and holiday parades. I didn’t usually get off until around 2-2:30 in the morning and walking on main street with all the people gone but the lights still lit was magical in itself.
    I’d love to win.

  23. I love now that my kids are old enough to really get into Christmas! The magic I see through their eyes is indescribable. We saw the Cinderella stagecoach at the Dallas Arboretum recently; instead of getting excited about the lights, horse, etc, my boys were enthralled with the fake mouse in the seat of it. Too funny. Merry Christmas and I hope all the Vamp and shifter couples have a great one as well!

  24. I love the pic of the carriage, it made me think of cinderella’s coach too…

ALSO, on recipes that are for cookies and call for brown sugar, if you use dark brown sugar they are a little bit less likely to end up being too dry and are more likely to turn out nice and moist and chewey..

  25. Kerrelyn Thank you so much for the great stories.I happened to be looking for a book to read and i picked up All I Want For Christmas Is A Vampire.I was hooked!!!That book is why i want a Vampire for Christmas they sound so YUMMY!!! Happy Holidays!(can’t wait for Wanted:Undead Or Alive 3/27/12)

  26. Why i want a vampire for Christmas? Why wouldn’t I want a vampire for Christmas? They are sexy, strong, protective, sensitive, funny, intriguing, I could go on forever. But I wouldn’t just want the vampire for Christmas. LOL

  27. I love ALL of your book. My husband gave me a Kindle for Christmas last year and it was the BEST gift, now I need to buy all your books on it as well (I have them all in paper back).
    Thanks for the great reads.

  28. Back in the late 80’s my parents for part of our Christmas presents bought all of us tickets for Disneyland ($14 a ticket). It was cold and foggy and there wasn’t a whole lot of people there. We stayed for the Electrical Parade and the fireworks. I remember my 2 year old niece looking at the fireworks in awe and clapping her hands. It was the best fireworks and Christmas vacation to date.

  29. When I was younger (a long time ago) my family took a trip to Flordia for christmas. Coming from Michigan, the lack of snow made me sad. Of course now that I am older I would love to go anywhere without snow.

  30. HI Kerrelyn!! Thank you for the lovely post and cookie recipe! Each year a horse park about 50 mi or so from my home has a huge lights display. It is so big that you drive through most of it.
I LOVE your books! They are some of my favorites ever! Hope you have a great Christmas & New Years!

  31. I’ve always wanted to visit San Antonio. This year my niece sent me pictures from the Baltimore boat parade – so pretty – have to get there too. At this time of year I drive home at night on the back roads rather than the highway so I can see all the pretty lights on the houses.

  32. We used to live up north and always wanted to experience a different type of climate at Christmas. We moved to West Palm Beach Florida and attended a boat parade on the intracoastal waterway at night. The boats floating up and down the waterway were expensive yachts that were decorated in Christmas lights. Very beautiful and very vampireish.

  33. The recipe looks great! Uses my favorite kind of candy. I love to ride around my town and look at everyone’s decorations.

  34. I’d love to come to Texas anytime, but looks like christmas would be in first place!! Thanks for the post

  35. One year we went to Key West right beofre christmas. Being from NY, we were used to the really cold weather. I loved being able to walk around with a short sleeve shirt on, and got a big kick out of the palm trees with christmas lights! LOL

  36. What a wonderful Christmas memory! Thanks for sharing 🙂 Those orange slice cookies sound really good – I’ll definitely give them a try.

  37. Kerrelyn, I have seen the Riverwalk in pictures and have always wanted to visit espeically at Christmas..
    thanks for the reminder…

  38. Hmmm why do I want a vampire for christmas because that would be the best present ever a hot, sexy, alpha male who wouldn’t want that!!!!!

  39. One of my favorite Christmas memories is when my best friend at the time who was my boyfriend surprised me by taking me to see this house that had made the news from it’s decorations.

The people had it decorated like the North Pole Santa Village. They had a mini Ferris wheel that was about 10 feet tall that had little Elves riding on it with Christmas music playing.

The lights and decorations were beautiful and I will never forget it as long as I live.

    Teresa K.

  40. Dear Kerrelyn, I enjoy all of your books that you have written. I am a mom of 3 12 year old twins and a 9 year old. I life is pretty hectic. Reading your books are my “take me away calgon.” lol. This Christmas we are staying home. My husband has made my kids christmas extra special by having our christmas light outside go to music. Very awsome. Well hope you have an awesome Christmas. Thank you again

  41. This looks to be a fun read. Love to try new cookie recipes and these look delicious. Christmas lights make everything magical whether there are lights everywhere or just a few. Thanks for the giveaway. 🙂

  42. Thanks for sharing the memories and Christmas cookies with us. We have local area called Christmas Tree Lane. It is 3 blocks long and has been a tradition in Altadena for almost 100 years. It has about 30 to 40 100 foot spruce trees that are all decked out with lights and ornaments. These trees are along the curbs in front of the houses. People come from all over Southern California just to drive up and down the street and stare in awe at these trees. We have an annual tree lighting party there and it is always a beautiful sight.

Thanks for the chance to win.

  43. Fav Christmas Memory – 18 yrs ago giving birth Christmas Eve (barely – 3am!) to my son Austen then bringing him home dressed in a cute Christmas onesy with matching Santa Hat on Christmas Day. Difficult to think of him so small as he stands 6’2″ now

  44. My Favorite X-mas memory- It was cold for X-mas for Florida,I was 8yrs old, and the heat broke, so X-mas Eve the whole family slept in our living room in front of the fire. My mom had to put all the X-mas presents out with out awaking any of us kids up, it was so fun!

  45. I used to love Christmas when I was a kid… I was carefree and very happy though I am still happy now but before it was a different kind of happiness… It was filled with innocence. But enough about that, anyway we would go to our ancestral home almost a month before Chtistmas. I remember my uncle would come home a week before Christmas and bring 3 duffel bags full of fireworks and everyday after waking up I’d always be given hot chocolate and race straight to the living room after breakfast and peep though my stocking and see if santa ever gave me candies. And every time I’d have my fill of candies everyday and that would make me soooo happy. And when Christmas came it would be every kids heaven because the house is filled with chocolates, most especially me because I was the only kid in the house. When you ask a kid what his or her favorite part of Christmas would be and I’d betcha that he or she would answer: Opening the Christmas presents, but for me it was probably having a bowl-the size of a punch bowl, by the way- full of m&m’s. Not only that, but I also enjoy spending time with my grandfather because he and my aunt were my secret santa. I miss him immensely even after so long since he passed away. I will never forget to be grateful to him for introducing me the greatest gift a young child could have for Christmas and that is allowing me to believe in Christmas miracles and just have fun like an ordinary child should. For always making the effort for me unlike other parents I know. So guys, merry Christmas to you and to all your loved ones. And by the way Kerrelyn- Thanks a great bunch since one of my Christmas wishes was to have an individual copy of Maggie’s book and now I can’t wait to get my hands on the ebook and add it to my collection, and I hope soon there’ll be a paperback copy so I could add it to my other collection. 🙂

  46. Love your books! One of my favorite Christmas memories Is the year my mother forgot to put names on the packages. The catch phrase of the day was that’s not yours…give it to your sister!!! Many wonderful memories!

  47. I have so many memories of going to my grandparents at Christmas. They lived in an old farmhouse and always had it decorated and a huge tree my grandfather would always cut down from somewhere on his farm. Wow thats been so many yrs. ago. My grandfather has been gone since I was 13 yrs. old and I’m now 52 but those memories still remain.

  48. There is a subdivision about 2 miles from us, that every house decorates in a big way for Christmas. My families favorite time to drive through is after the first snow fall, because the lights show up so much better against the white background.

    drainbamaged.gyzmo at gmail.com

  49. I wish I had a picture of my front window to share. I LOVE decorating for Christmas. I have 500 super bright lights in my front window! Maybe someday I will do one of those synchronized light shows! jepebATverizonDOTnet

  50. I think one of my favorite Christmas memories was this year taking my son to Koziars Christmas Village and seeing his eyes light up seeing all the lights for the first time. Also, he sat on Santas lap and didn’t cry just looked annoyed…lol. That has to definitely be my favorite Christmas memory.

  51. I have a picture of a coach like that also. We were at a horse drawn auction in Waverly, Iowa a few years ago and they had one for sale. of course I took pics. No we didn’t buy it. I think it brought $1000 but it sure was neat.

  52. I have lots of Holiday memories but I am looking forword to next christmas, my uncle comes from being deployed and we are taking my daughter to disney land for the christmas holiday. I have heard so much about the parade of lights and everything, I can’t wait. I can’t wait to see my daughter’s face when we get there and she see her favorite characters.

  53. Thanks for sharing. We have a parade of lights in a town around us.Everything is so lite up it looks spectacular.

  54. Hmmm….Christmas is great and I love spending the holidays with my family every year. I miss the years my grandparents were alive the most. Every year I try to recreate the feeling in my home that they had in theirs, and I have always been so blessed for having had them in my life

  55. Last Christmas I got a trip to Universal (i.e. the Harry Potter Theme Park in Florida). Two friends and I got three days in the three Universal parks. I got to go to the Harry Potter theme park every day and can I say…Butterbeer is AMAZING!

  56. Thanks for the giveaway!
My best Christmas memory is spending it with my best friends and having a good time.

    justjanhvi at gmail dot com

  57. I love this series alot and have read everyone I can get my hands on.
Christmas was always about family and sharing.

  58. Thanks for sharing and that carriage does look like Cinderella’s. I think it would be cool to take a ride on it.

I love all the Christmas lights. I seems to make everything magical. We have a farm around here that decorates the front part and you can drive around. They have sensors every so many feet and if you have your radio on the correct channel, there is music to go with the light show. They also have a petting zoo for the kids, a gift shop and Santa. Hundreds of folks in the local area go to Bubby Knott’s farm just for the lights which are free.

    Have a great holiday.

  59. I’ve always loved the holiday spirit during Christmas. I like drinking hot chocolate and enjoying that moment during the cold winter. We sometimes go to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular show in NYC.

  60. a BIG thank you to everyone who commented!! And to Kerrelyn for sharing her memories with us!!!

CONGRATULATIONS to Tamara Hoff! You won the autographed copy of ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS A VAMPIRE. I will email you with the details.

  61. Love your books and the cookie recipe was fun.
I remember going to the Cincinnati Zoo for the light display many years ago and it was so much fun, shared it with a great guy and we drank hot rum toddys and sang carols. shame i lost track of him, he could have been a keeper. Merry Christmas Bernie

  62. I have never taken a Christmas trip but I do remember we would always go see this ice skating show about an Ice Princess. I loved it and would beg my mom to take me every year.
Thanks for the giveaway and the great books to add to my to read list. Happy Holidays!
