Summary:
Her mama always said the women in their family were hotblooded…
And it’s been causing Brooke Donovan trouble her whole life. But it wasn’t until her mother took on the most powerful man in Honey Creek, Texas, that Brooke truly realized the daughter of the town whore didn’t stand a chance. When she left, it was supposed to be for good. But now, thanks to her late husband’s deal with their hometown, she’s back in the last place on earth she wants to be. Temporarily. As soon as her debts are paid off, she’s outta here. Until in walks the one man who can make her rethink everything.
DiDi’s Review:
Hotblooded is the first book I have read by Erin Nicholas, so I wasn’t sure what I was in for, after reading it, I can tell you I will be checking out the rest of her books.
Brooke is the daughter of Honey Creek’s Public Enemy #1. At 18, she married the town’s golden boy and they moved away because of the pressures of small town life, gossip and the way she was treated. Now she has temporarily moved back because of her husband’s death, she is counting the days until Honey Creek is in her rear view mirror. Jack Silver is a lovable, caring, man with a serious “hero complex” who has come to Honey Creek to help make Brooke’s life better because he feels responsible for her husband’s death, but Brooke won’t take his calls or meet with him. When they meet the sparks fly and Brooke runs from him because she is scared the town will use her attraction to him to justify their feelings toward her.
Brooke has her guards up and refuses to open her feelings up to anyone in the town or even the visiting Jack. HONESTLY, Ms. Nicholas did such a good job portraying Brooke’s feelings, that I had a HARD time liking her until literally half way through the book. I was trying to figure out how in the hell I was going to like her enough to be able to review the book. Once I got to the half way point, BAM, it all fell into place. Ms. Nicholas did a beautiful job of pulling me on the Brooke bandwagon. I started to feel for Brooke and want her to wake up and see what was really going on. Jack, OMG…he was so determined to help her and had so much patience with all her hot and cold actions. I loved how Jack’s brother was trying to cure Jack’s “hero complex.” He was such a romantic soul, I melted constantly. I did want to shake Brooke at times because she kept hurting Jack’s feelings, but I also loved how she finally gave into her “hotblooded nature.”
Hotblooded is full of emotions, turmoil and passion. But beyond the romance, Hotblooded is a story about emotionally healing, finding real love and forgiveness. It has a secondary cast I hope we see more of and I would like to see more of Jack and Brooke, yes they had their HEA but I want to see them living their lives in love and happy, there is a teaser at the end that made me smile =) OH and that freakin’ cappuccino machine…cold cappuccino would be my favorite too
Are you thinking “well damn DiDi if you loved it so much, why aren’t you giving it five stars?” Well there were just a couple things that kept me from giving Hotblooded five stars – I wanted ALL the secrets Brooke was hiding about her marriage to come out, especially to the pompous ass of an ex- father-in-law. Another, Brooke stated in the beginning she wanted an Alpha male to take control for once and while I don’t think Jack was Beta, I was hoping he would’ve been a little more ALPHA, because there were times when Brooke was in total control. That being said, I was not disappointed in the book, just felt there were a couple of things kind of left hanging. I am seriously hoping we get to see future books set in Honey Creek, because it’s a great town to visit!!!
